Need a Remedy for Spring Fever - How about Planting a Container Garden

Sunday, February 21, 2016

I had such high expectations for yesterday,
...finally a small of tease of Spring was in air,
only just a short grasp away.

Then came the clouds.
And although the temps were a little higher than we've seen for some time,
the overcast sky dampened my serious case of spring fever a tad bit!

But not entirely enough to deter my plans for the day,
give my front porch a refresher, including planting a seasonal container garden,
with BLOOMING flowers.

I took a trip to our local Lowe's for plants and new potting soil...

The yellow and green variegated leaves of the shrub caught my eye... interesting!

Pansies are one of my favs!
They're so pretty, dainty, and delicate in appearance.
But don't be fooled, ...they are tough and hardy little buggers, able to survive the cold!
I adore the simple white ones that filled this planter.

I have a stash of outdoor pillows I rotate on the bench, that sits by the door on the porch.
But I couldn't resist the new sweet bird and coordinating stripe pillows,
also found at Lowe's.

Oh wait... I have a set of bird pillows already, maybe a little larger, ...blue perhaps.
Still... I couldn't resist!  :)

The square boxwood shrub wreaths are a staple for my doors,
I've had them for quite some time.
They were revitalized with new green ribbon bows.

Rarely do I leave the Garden Section of Lowe's without checking out the Clearance racks.
Found two baskets of mixed colors pansies for $3 each.
With a little Miracle-Gro, they'll be blooming in no time.
They're headed for two urns that are on the back porch.

I hope the weather has been pleasant in your neck of the woods this weekend,
and you've been able to enjoy it some way!

Our temps were even warmer today.
When I awoke from my "Sunday after-church-nap," I'd planned to go walking,
but it was sprinkling rain.
Oh well, we're one day closer to Spring... and that's a good thing!  :)

  1. Very pretty! A few weeks ago before the baby shower I hosted, I renewed the pots on our porch with pansies and the asparagus fern from last summer is still pretty. Together they make a great combination. It's definitely already feeling like spring here. We went to our place in the country this weekend and the redbuds are blooming. :)

  3. Rhonda, I love the touches of spring that you added! We visited our local Lowe's garden center after church yesterday to look around, came home with only garden gloves! Wished I would have seen the cute bird pillows! The new ribbon on the square boxwood wreaths also say that spring is soon coming! Blessings, Pam @ everydayliving.me
