"Diamonds" (& Toile) are a Pumpkin's Best Friend

Friday, September 4, 2015

What better way to create a fall'tabulous pumpkin,
than to add a little bling paired with beautiful toile!

These aren't exactly "diamonds," adorning the pumpkin above,
but we can pretend with the vintage rhinestones, right?

Bling is bling...
& bling is good...
 I say!  :)

Follow along to see how this pretty pumpkin was created...

My objective was to make the pumpkin with items I had on hand,
...to buy absolutely nothing else for fall!
{...with the exception of real pumpkins for outdoors!}

I started with a pumpkin packed up in storage, that hadn't been used in several years,
...the orange color had gotten a little discolored with age.

From my fabric stash, I settled on the yellow toile,
and pulled out a few rhinestone pins from my daughter's collection.

Temporarily pulled the stem off, so I could begin dressing this old gal...

Cut the fabric in a circle enough just large enough to cover to the top center...

The bumps and rolls were showing through the fabric,
(I know how that feels... and looks... when I'm wearing a dress sometimes, ha!),
so I covered the pumpkin with batting.

After running a gathering stitch along the edge of the fabric,
I pulled the gathers tight and reinforced the hole closing with hot glue,
leaving enough open to reinsert the stem.

To finish the makeover,
a vintage rhinestone pin and brown satin ribbon were added.

The "diamond" and toile pumpkin is complete...

The bust shares center stage, with it's own set of "diamonds!"

"...But diamonds are a girl's best... best friend."

...and  they look pretty well suited on a certain toile pumpkin ready for fall!  :)

~Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
