On Lake Time - A Quick Bedroom Makeover

Wednesday, June 1, 2016

It all started with a pillow sham...
(or lack of one)...

Isn't that the way most makeover projects begin?
You start out to replace or refurbish one small thing,
and in the blink of an eye, it mushrooms and multiplies!

After our last rental party left last summer,
the pillow sham in this bedroom was missing.

But after three summer rental seasons,
the once full, fluffy comforter set had fallen flat and dull.
It was due time to retire it!

The vase on the safe/nightstand had also been broken at some point
and needed replacing.

We really do have a good group of reoccurring renters
that mostly fill the summer calendar weeks,
but summer rentals do put A LOT of wear and tear on your home.

And the lamps... they were looking a tad too formal for the space,
so I grabbed a couple of new crisp, white lampshades to lighten them.

But they were a little too white... stark and bland.
Does the cycle ever end???

Added jute trim from Hobby Lobby to the shades...
now the makeover project was starting to take shape!

Mr. Ramblings and I found the large, rustic Lake sign
on one of our trips to Charlotte, NC back in the winter.

We bought it, thinking it was pretty cool,
without much thought of where we would or could use it at the lake house.

The bedroom seemed like a good place.
Would fit in with some other vintage, old pieces we had in there.

And now to put it all together...

The new Lauren, Ralph Lauren, comforter set was found at
the WestPoint Home Bed and Bath Factory Outlet Store.
I also purchased the gold shams and chevron pillow from the outlet.
The prices were great!

If you're traveling along Interstate 95, before you get to the NC/SC State line,
in Lumberton, the outlet is right off of Exit 20, on Lackey St.

Another thrifty find, I picked up the bench at our local flea market last year.

The fabric used to recover it matched well enough to leave it... for now anyhow!
...that's my story and I'm sticking to it!   :)

A vintage safe serves as a nightstand...

A vase from of my vintage white milk glass collection
 replaced the broken blue one...

Finding a nightstand to fit in the small space between the bed and bathroom door
was a challenge, thus the small stand substitute.

And just when you thought having a vintage safe was a strange alternative
for a nightstand, how about an old barber's chair for an accent chair?

As we collect... we strive to find creative ways to display and use.
We get a lot of positive comments about our "junk!"
The eclectic mix keeps things interesting, I'm sure!  :)

This post wraps up about all I have to share from the lake house for awhile.

Thanks for visiting!
And I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! :)
