The Whole World in His Hands - Mini Globes for Decorating

Tuesday, April 30, 2013

You know how one purchase can lead to another,
... which leads to another,
...which leads to another?
{Please tell me that does happen to you, that I'm not alone! ha!}

What starts out as a bargain, or thriftin' find, can snowball into additional non-bargains? ha!

Recently, I found some really cute things while junk shopping for my booths that I wanted to use
in my own home!

The porcelain orbs below, were purchased at the Salvation Army, 6 for $2 a piece.
I fell in love with the black, white, and green color combos!

The $2 orbs led to an additional $20 for "just the right" glass canister, found at Stein Mart.
Plus the boxwood orbs, which were $3 each.

So much for my "bargain decor," ...which mushroomed into not so much of a bargain, huh?

No regrets, though!  The canister filled with the pretty orbs goes perfectly with the springy vignette
on the foyer table!

A few days later, I found the metal piece below, at a yard sale for $2.00.

I took a trip back to Stein Mart for more boxwood orbs.
In the meantime, they'd stocked a few additional styles, including the mini globe below.

When I saw the sweet little globe orbs, the song I learned in preschool many years ago came across my mind...  "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands."

The precious pint size globe fits right in the palm of your hand!

As I was freshening things up with my other finds, I was in search of a greenery wreath to hang on the mirror in the dining room.  Unable to find one in the size needed, ...and budget friendly, I opted for a plain twig wreath and garland of greenery from Hobby Lobby.  I wrapped the airy garland around the wreath.  Works perfectly!

...and on a side note, painting my dining room will be my next home project!
It will be quick job, if only I can pick a color and recruit help to move the furniture.

I'm trying to decide between SW Sea Salt, SW Silvermist, and SW Ryegrass.

Stein Mart also had the globe orbs in vintage globe colors...

And I knew I had the perfect spot for one.
My daughter gave me the "SWEET" cloche, a couple of weeks ago for my birthday.
The colors show well in the cloche!

...off to do more junkin,'  how about you! :)

Queen Bee

Thursday, April 25, 2013

In my last post, I shared a tour of an amazing shop in Raleigh, NC,
     ...Shops of Baileywick.

The shop was overflowing with pretty, rich inspiration!

One idea that I "borrowed," was the beautiful pillow, below, that my daughter and I both admired!

Now mine is not an exact replica, but I adapted the idea and made it my own! :)

I found the bee, crown, and laurel wreath stencil on ebay, seller: stencils-by-joanie.
They also have a direct <online site,>  Creative Stencil Designs.
Great quality stencils, and they ship super quick!

Let me just say, ...I. have. gone. stencil. crazy!!!

Following flashbacks of 1980's stenciling, I didn't think that would ever be possible! ha!

Anyhow, I cut a 17" square from canvas material, taped the stencil to the fabric, and dabbed away.
The sponge, as seen below, also came in bulk from the same seller.  ...love them!
They work much better than any brush I've tried, and eliminate paint bleeding under the stencil.

And so we have my creations...

Crown & Laurel Wreath Pattern...

Paris France &  Crown design...

Again, ...I have absolutely gone crazy with stencils.
They sure can help transform a cruddy piece of furniture like nobody's business!

The bench, below, was found at a yard sale.

Painted aqua and stenciled...

Now how cute is that???  :)

I didn't get a before shot of the table below, ...was a shabby old wood table found at an auction.
Painted with AS Old White and Duck Egg Blue, stenciled, and distressed, it too has been revived!

...the "Queen {crown} Bee" stenciled projects didn't stop with pillows and furniture...

I found the cute, colorful buckets at the Dollar Tree....

Stenciled just the crown and bee from the templates on burlap, and hot-glued them to the buckets.

Wouldn't these make great teacher's gifts, ...budget friendly, too!

I must confess, in less than a week and a half, I've placed three orders for stencils!
You'll see more in the coming weeks!  :)

Number Stencils....

These cuties are going to my booths!
   {as are the pillows and furniture above!}

Ironically, as I was preparing this post, Betty Crocker posted sweet bee cupcakes on FB,
click the picture to check them out!

Okay...  I'm off to bee more creative!  Bee back soon! :)

The Black Sheep

Wednesday, April 17, 2013

I've fallen out of the loop of blogging ...again,
...for how many times since Christmas, I've lost count!  ughhhh!
I feel a little like a black sheep! ha!

But I'm thinking, poor black sheep get a bad rap...
they are actually quite cute, right?

On a recent trip to Raleigh, NC, my daughter, mother-in-law, and I happened upon the wonderful shop that sold these sweet little black sheep, and many other beauties!

Shops of Baileywick is a delightful store featuring 70 boutiques and lots of rich, unique finds!

If you live in or around the Raleigh area, I highly recommend visiting at, 9650 Strickland Road.
(Off of Lead Mine Road or Six Forks Road)

And if you are much too far to come in person, I invite you to take the virtual tour below.
You might find an inspiring idea or two!  I sure did!

Hope you enjoyed the tour!
We bought a few things, and "borrowed a few ideas," which I'll share soon.

I'll end this post with a tea towel that I didn't buy, but struck me as a funny!
...I feel as though I am on a mental vacation, often, these days! ha! :)
