Whale of a Chair, Plus More From Bello Market

Tuesday, March 26, 2013

Ever see a project in Blogland you absolutely adore, one you'd like to try your hand at,
so you store the image on the back burner of your mind?

Not that my mind is very good for storing any information anymore! ha!

Anyhow, this super cute chair of Amy's, from Atta Girl, was just that sort of project!
I've been on the hunt for the perfect chair to recreate her Tricycle one since she posted it back in August.

Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint Tricycle Red Chair by AttaGirlSays.com

I recently accumulated several pieces to be upcycled, from flea markets, yard sales, and auctions.

Rough looking bunch, huh?

Fortunately, all were structurally sound, and the chair, although not the same style,
just screamed for an Atta Girl makeover!
...or at least one similar!

After a slight sanding, the chair was painted with Valspar Tranquility in Satin,
from Valspar's new Spring Line.

The seat was stenciled with white whales!

Looks a little "Vineyard Vine'ish", huh?

The search continues for a boxy, school house chair,
'cause I'm still loving that little tricycle.

But the "Whale of a Chair," inspired by Amy's turned out pretty well!

The Brandlt Harp Table makeover is also complete!

Before...

The table was painted with Miss Mustard Seed's Milk Paint in Linen.
To achieve a chippy look, no bonding agent was added to the paint mixture, or pre-sanding done.
The top was lightly brushed with Annie Sloan Duck Egg Blue, and the entire table was sealed with Annie Sloan Clear Wax.

This piece was hard to part with it, but having no where to use it, it went to my booth in Castle Hayne, Trash to Treasures.

As for my Booth, Bello Market, at it's new, second location, Trash To Treasures,
...seems to be off to a good start and March sales are looking good.

Below, are a few pictures taken when setting up.
The set of Conch pictures and Ornate Mirror (AS Provence) sold within a few days!

The Yellow Roses in Blue Urns Oils sold quickly, too!
...that's encouraging! :)

The following are pictures taken about a week and a half ago...

The upcycled Chalk Tray, below, is the same seen with the furniture grouping at the beginning of the post.

Vintage Toys...

Recognize the gray chair from my Blog header/banner?  Poor thing wasn't selling in my other booth, so I recovered it in a more upbeat, current fabric.  It's fresher and prettier, and hopefully will find a new home soon!

A few NC vintage pieces...

I hate to end my post with an ugly picture, but this is my current project, below.
As the old southern saying goes... "I may have met my daddy drunk" on this one!  ha!
Tough one, but ...I have a vision, and I will not be whipped, so stay tuned!
I may just pulled this one off!   ;)

  5. You are so sweet to showcase me as your inspiration. I truly appreciate it. That tricycle chair is an all-time favorite of mine, too.

And I have to say I'm in love with all your transformations.

That whale chair is so very cute and preppy. (I think I may have a purse to match it!) I bet it sells in a heartbeat. I may just copy that one! :)

I love the milk-painted harp table. Beautiful chipping and distressing on that one.

I love your fabric choices, too. Do you happen to know what the pattern is on that Florence (aqua)? I've been looking for a Chinese-type fabric for my office, and that one is definitely speaking to me.

You and I must chat some day about this furniture painting and booth business. I'd love to trade war stories and pointers.

Thank you again, my friend, for showcasing me on your wonderful blog.

  7. Oh that last piece is just exactly like the one I have in my sewing room. It's part of a suite of furniture from around 1900 with a great tall backed bed and a couple of dressers. It's from a whole 'nuther time and place. I don't imagine the older-older stuff is in such high favor just now...gone the way of round oak tables and such. Sigh. I like it! And I really like the chairs a lot. In fact, I wish that I could shop there.
