Garden Club Thanksgiving Tablescape

Are you up to your eyeballs in Thanksgiving preparations???

I sure am, and to spur my creativity, I've been scouring through old photos of past seasons.
If nothing else, I'm reminded of those "seasonal items" I have tucked away;
if only to remember where they are tucked away! ha!

Ran across a Thanksgiving Tablescape I was commissioned by a friend to create
a couple of years ago, to present at a local Garden Club demonstration.
{And I use "commissioned" lightly; strictly volunteered my time! :) }

Items Used for Tablescape:

Dessert Dish ~ Vintage Amber Glass
Salad Plate ~ Vintage Candlewick
Dinner Plate ~ No Name - Thrift Store Find {50 cents}
Flatware ~ Sterling Silver Gorham, Strasbourg
Gold Charger
Ceramic Acorns ~ Pier One {2009 Seasonal}
Fabric Placemat ~ Remnant from Dining Room Window Treatments
Candlesticks ~ Tiffany & Co.
Linen Napkins ~ Self-Monogrammed {See Tutorial Below}
Canister with Acorns ~ {See Tutorial Below}
Not Pictured: Tea and Water Glasses ~ My friend's beautiful Waterford Crystal Stems

As for the linen napkin, I monogrammed it with rubber stamps, using permanent ink.
Used the letter "J," in this place setting to represent my friend Jolene.

The reason: These would make great personalized place markers as well, using the initial of each person attending the gathering to mark their place.

And on to the acorns in the canister ~ what says "harvest and Thanksgiving" like acorns???

Gathered acorns from my yard...

...and "Martha" glitter and glue from the craft closet.

Hot-glued the ruffly tops back on the acorns.

Covered the acorn base with a thin coat of glue,
sprinkling on glitter.

While the acorns dried,
hot-glued a glass vase/canister onto a candlestick, both purchased from The Dollar Tree.

And voila, an inexpensive seasonal decoration is born!

  7. I'm up to my eyeballs all right and not in Thanksgiving! Would you believe I didn't even decorate for Halloween, and I love decorating for fall?! Thanksgiving is going to be pretty quiet around here. So, if you're wondering what I'm up to my eyeballs in......junk and all sorts of this and that! I feel like I'm living in an episode of hoarders for sure. I've got Trav's room painted and all of the stuff in his room is stacked in my office and the other little old office downstairs. I finally got his bed put into his room last night so it's out of the family room. I've emptied some of his boxes to put his stuff back out and have most of his furniture back in but I need to haul his old entertainment center to the garage bz I'm letting him use my cubbies until Christmas. I have no idea how to fit his little fridge back in his room! Augh! Oh well, each day brings a little more progress. I do love seeing how your decorate. I have to use linen napkins on Sunday dinner or it drives me crazy! Paper are fine for otherwise but most of the time I use cloth napkins. I like your idea of monogramming them with ink though. I love how you use monograms.

    P.S. Sorry so long.

  18. Rhonda:

    I've cut and pasted the recipes at the end of this email from the email I sent to the mom making these for Travis. They're about the easiest dishes ever to make! We like it cooked hot instead of served cold. We don't eat much meat around here just bz we don't like it but my friends all add browned hamburger to the dip. We like it bz everyone can have it their own way with no fuss! Let me know if you like them. I wish I cooked better but I've been out of the cooking mode for some time. Maybe when I get a dishwasher again I can get back into cooking bz honestly I hate having to wash the dishes by hand that cooking creates, lol!

    Hope you have a nice day. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and being so supportive of me as I've gone through this experience. It truly has changed my life as well as his. :)

    Cindy

    Taco Dip
    2 large cans refried beans
    1 lb Monterey Jack Cheese
    1 lb Cheddar Cheese
    1 large bottle taco sauce
    ! bag tortilla chips
    (may add 1 lb cooked hamburger if your family likes it but my family doesn't like the meat in it)

    Suggested garnishments
    Chopped tomatoes
    sliced olives
    sour cream
    shredded lettuce
    chopped green onions
    Guacamole, etc.

    Spread refried beans in the bottom f a 13x9" pan. (Brown hamburger and spread on top of beans but; once again, my family skips this step). Top with grated cheeses. Pour whole bottle of taco sauce over the top. At this point it may be refrigerated and served cold or you can bake it at 400 degrees (preheated oven) for 20-30 minutes (depending on your oven) and serve hot. Serve with tortillas chips as scoops and each person can garnish their's as desired. We swirl it around on our plates to mix it all together and then use the tortilla chips as scoops.

    Scotcheroos
    2 cups sugar
    2 cups light corn syrup
    2 cups creamy or chunky peanut butter depending on your preference but Trav likes creamy (18 oz jar works perfect)
    18 oz package of Rice Krispies (if halfing the recipe use 5-6 cups)
    12 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
    12 oz butterscotch chips (sold by the chocolate chips in the store)

    Butter two 13x9 pans or one large cookie sheet and set aside. Heat sugar and corn syrup on medium high heat to boiling, remove from heat. Add peanut butter and stir thoroughly. Quickly fold inm Rice Krispies and pat into buttered pan(s). Melt chocolate chips and butterscotch chips in a double boiler stirring well. Spread over Rice Krispies and cool.

    ***You can melt the chocolate chips and butterscotch chips in the microwave but I like using a double boiler since there's little chance of burning the topping like I do when I microwave it.

    Sorry this is so long but the server rejected this as an email. Have you changed your address?

  21. The dishwasher broke right before he left on his mission and we didn't have the money to fix it. I like it bz it sterilizes the dishes too. It's much easier for me than doing them by hand.
