Has Fall Become the New June for Brides

Wednesday, August 12, 2015

I was a December Bride,
...never have been one to follow trends too closely.
And I love Christmas, so a Christmas wedding suited me well!

But it's been my observation in the last few years,
with the rise in popularity of September and October
weddings in our part of the country ,
has Fall become the new June for Brides?

Regardless of the month or season in which
a blushing bride chooses to say her "I dos,"
a leading trend is creative diy wedding decor.

If you're planning an upcoming wedding,
I have a book recommendation for inspiration
that will elevate your event to a whole other level,
Weddings, by Tara Guerand.

In 2014, I had the opportunity to attend The Festival of Flowers,
presented by The Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Fiore Fine Flowers,
in Wilmington, NC, with a friend who works for LCFH.

Tara Guerard, premier wedding and event planner, was the keynote speaker.
She led a workshop in which we individually designed a gorgeous vase of flowers.

Certainly was pleased to bring my arrangement home, after the event.

Introduction to Guerard's Book...
{excerpt from the dust cover}

"With impeccable style and tastes, premier event designer Tara Guerard takes us on a guided tour though twelve dream weddings...

...From a formal Southern soiree to an ocean island affair, Tara shares the tools and tricks of the trade she's learned from over a decade of working in the industry...

...Every chapter imparts fresh information using specific weddings as examples and inspiration....

...Tara... shows readers how they can plan their wedding with topics ranging from choosing a venue to choosing colors; deciding on hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, or a formal sit-down meal; and decorating the altar, the table, or even the bride's shoes!"

Even if you're not planning a wedding anytime soon,
but love to throw large elegant, beautiful parties,
or lovely, simple and small ones,
Many of the ideas in this book can be adapted
to elevate your event of any size to all sorts of fabulous-ness!

So just for fun...

Back to June Weddings,
ever wonder how the age-old tradition gained it's popularity?

I came across a few interesting theories.

One story goes, between the 1400-1500's, the last of May, first of June was the time in which folks enjoyed their "annual bath."  (Yes, a once a year event!)  They emerged outdoors after a long winter and bathed.  What better time to marry than when you're smelling the freshest of the year!  :)

Another theory is that June was named after Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and childbirth, and the protector of women.  The ladies thought that if they honored Juno by marrying in June, they would be showered with good luck and good wishes!

Lord willing, I'll be traveling to meet another author tomorrow,
at Quail Ridge Bookstore in Raleigh, NC.
...Debbie Macomber!
Really looking forward to it and will share more later!  :)

  5. Looks like a great book. I'm so happy though that I'm done with weddings. If any of the four kids marry again they're on their own!
