Frenchy Bench Redo

Tuesday, May 29, 2012

My intentions were to do a
Celebrating the Red, White, and Blue Part II Post,
but the internet wasn't cooperating yesterday!

I suppose I'll save the great inspiration I've collected until 4th of July!

(For Celebrating the Red, White, and Blue Part I, click HERE)

I do hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Memorial Day Holiday!
And to those that served, or have family that served,
a big, warm THANKS for your service
in protecting our freedom and our country!

So, moving forward, I have a little project to share I recently completed.

I think I paid $10.00 for the bench, at an auction.
It had layers and layers of cruddy fabric underneath the JD layer.
But that didn't deter my dreams for the beauty this piece could be! :)

Do you ever feel like you really need a bath after recovering some pieces??? Ha!

I painted the frame Satin Black,
and covered the cushion with a stain repellent frenchy looking yellowish fabric.

The fabric has a more yellow hue than appears in the photos.

Tagged and ready for sale in my junk booth!

Sure hope it finds a good home, soon! :)

The Summer months
present many opportunities to celebrate our great country
and the heroes that have served it well!

I've assembled a collection of images
from Pinterest.

Sweet Southern Confections

Monday, May 21, 2012

So...
Again, It's been awhile...

Life has been crazy around here!
Year-end activities involving the kids,
keeping my antique mall booth stocked,
and we are doing some remodeling at the lake house.
Trying to get it ready for summer,
and renting!
Miss, miss, miss my blogging! :)

Need a sweet, savory, and absolutely divine dessert for Memorial Day
or other Summer soirees?

Coconut Cream Dessert

Similar to Coconut Cream Pie, but made in a 13x9 Dish.

Coconut Cream Dessert Recipe

1 cup all-purpose flour
2 tbs. sugar
1/2 cup cold butter
1/2 cup chopped pecans

Filling:
1 (8oz) cream cheese, softened
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 (12 oz) frozen whipped topping, thawed
4 cups milk
3 (3.5 oz) instant coconut cream pudding mix
1/2 cup flaked coconut (toasted coconut optional)

1. Combine flour and sugar; cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in the pecans. Press into a greased 13x9 baking dish. Bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool on a wire rack.

2.  Beat cream cheese and confectioners sugar until smooth; fold in 1 cup whipped topping.  Spread over the crust.  In a bowl, whisk milk and pudding mixes for 2 minutes; let stand for 2 minutes or until soft-set.  Spread over cream cheese mixture.  Top with remaining whipped topping.  Sprinkle top with coconut. Refrigerate overnight.

Super easy, Super delicious!

And...
personally, I prefer the dessert served at room temperature.

Just a few more Sweet Southern Confections...

My daughter had the opportunity to "Bake Cupcakes with the President of Meredith"
a few weeks before the Summer Break.

The staff baker led the class on cupcake decorating,
and the President, Dr. Jo Allen, decorated right along with the girls.

Below are a few of the cupcakes they made.

Great ideas....

These precious little birds are missing their yellow beaks,
which fell off in transit from college.

Cute, though, huh???

Sweet Summer Flowers...

Monogrammed and Sprinkled...

And for the kids, or kids at heart...

Cookie Monster and the Grouch!

Chocolate Chip "trashcan" lid!

...As always, if you try any of these Sweet Southern Confections,
~enjoy! :)

Has It Really Been A Year...

Wednesday, May 9, 2012

 ....since I last blogged???

No, just seems that way! :)

But it is hard to believe my daughter, Ashley, has finished her FIRST year of college!
I remember so distinctly, moving her into the dorm last fall, thinking she would probably last only a couple of weeks!  Fortunately, she adjusted much quicker than I did! ha!
The year has gone well, she has grown and matured, ...I am one incredibly proud mama! :)

A couple of weeks ago, she attended The Ball at her college.

The following pictures were shots taken around the beautiful campus.

Ashley and her escort, Wesley...

David and I went up for the afternoon.
I volunteered to help her dress, fix her hair, and take pictures,
...and because I can't quite cut those apron strings just yet!  :)

Wesley and David cuttin' the fool!

And Ashley gettin' her silly on...

Ashley, David, and Wesley

And they're off to The Ball...
