Pumpkin Project
One Wedsnesday night of each month, I teach the GA's in our church.
{Missions Group for Girls 1st-6th Grades}

My goal is to do projects with them or have outings to promote missions in our community.

This month we made Fabric Pumpkins...

They were easy and the girls really enjoyed making them!
Here's how we made them....

Started with orange fabric and green felt.

Tangent: I thought the green fabric below was the prettiest shade of green, much nicer looking than any of the other "felts" in the bin at the fabric store. When I got to the sales counter I found out why. It wasn't felt, but misplaced WOOL. Thank goodness I had only gotten 1/4 of a yard! :)

Also needed, Poly-fil.
(On Sale this week at JoAnns Fabrics)

Fabric circles were cut, and Poly-fil used for the stuffing.

"Stems" cut from felt.

No sewing needed, just gathered the fabric up around the Poly-fil, and secured the ends with a rubber band.

Under one round of the rubber band, secured the stem

Using burlap twine...

Cut a strand and wrapped it around the rubber band until it was covered.

Optional Part:
We wanted to add a tag, so we cut strips of paper...

And wrote... "Jesus Loves You" on the each.

Our theme for the night was "Love."

How Jesus loves us, and how to show love for others. To share this love, the girls made two pumpkins each... one to keep, and one to share with a teacher, friend, etc.

Our Theme Verse was:
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39 NIV

The girl's finished pumpkins!
Aren't they so cute???

And if you are reading this, know that Jesus loves you, too! :)

  1. What a fun project! I used to teach girls this age at our church and had so much fun with them. I love the message at the end too :) I think it's good for grownups to remember that Jesus loves us too! Thanks for the reminder. Hope you have a great time with your mom!
