Flamingos On the 4th & Celebrating Old Glory

Thursday, July 7, 2016

I'm pretty crazy about flamingos!
Always have adored them!
What's not to love about the pretty, pink, naturally-born whimsical birds?

To celebrate the 4th,
I thought it would be fun to give a few a fun, festive makeover.

I honestly imagined the birds could be transformed quickly and easily,
but boy, were they ever a booger!
...a learn-as-you-go project!

My daughter spray painted them with a base coat of "for plastic" paint.
But the paint easily chipped.
After a few more coats, and hand-painting the facial details,
I topped them off with a Mod-Podge, making their finish much more durable.

The flamingos took longer than anticipated,
but they turned out pretty cute, don't you think?

The flamingos greeted guests, our church-folks, as they arrived
for a 4th of July Cook-out and Fireworks, we hosted at our lake house
Sunday night!

My daughter, Ashley, crafted the rag patriotic garland...

Not only did we celebrate the birthday of our great country,
but Mr. Ramblings' 50th, as well!

My mama use to always say,
there's nothing I liked better than to plan and decorate for a party!
So just maybe she's right!  ;)

The food tables arrangements...

Ashley painted the jars.
Sure is good having her close by again!

Sweet little front door greeter...

A few festive touches around back on the screened-in porch...

Last year's 4th of July project, a pallet flag.

Pinterest idea borrowed, a few red, white, and blue stars,
painted on the lawn.

My son is a very patriotic fellow!
His favorite holiday is the 4th of July, proudly displaying Old Glory on his truck.

Didn't realize it had gotten so dry at the lake.
Hopefully the scattered showers we're getting this week will green up the grass!

Hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July Weekend!
I'm enjoying a few days at the lake,
"on lake time - just chillin' it,"
and catching up on some reading...  my favorite vaca pastime!
Life is good!  :)
