Thriftin' Is For The Birds - In a Good Way

Monday, February 29, 2016

There are three things I'm immensely fond of...
Italian Pottery, birds, and fresh flowers.

Oh, well make that four... thriftin'!

Saturday, Mr. Ramblings and I had to run some errands over towards Lumberton, NC.
Until last summer, I rented a booth at an antique mall in Lumberton for about five years,
at Carolina Country Peddlers Mall.

I couldn't pass the chance to do a little browsing since since I was so close.
...just a quick run-through!  {wink, wink}

A few booths in, I found the Italian Pottery Bird Vase, below.

I can spot Italian Pottery, without ever checking the bottom.
The glazing/finish and details of the pieces really appeal to me.

One of my guilty pleasures is fresh cut flowers.
But I justify that passion by purchasing inexpensive grocery bundles,
which usually last around two weeks, depending on the variety.

You can see more of the floral arrangements that grace this corner of my kitchen
{in this post}.

Funny story, as much as I adore "bird decor," I try to show restraint.
After collecting for some time, I now only purchase pieces I really love.

Why, you may ask?

Several years ago I hosted a church circle meeting in my home.
One older lady, who "God love her," is known to be outspoken, was in attendance.

I won't go as far as to say she's insensitive or rude,
which I suppose because I know she means no harm, ...I think.
She has a good heart deep down, she's just very matter-of-fact.

Anyhow, she made a few comments about the abundance of birds in my decor.
And maybe from the view of a fresh set of eyes,
there might have appeared to be an overload of feathery friends.

I did down-size my collection, but I'm not giving them up completely!

The platter is also an Italian Pottery piece.
It's been in this spot for as long as I can remember.

So, what's your latest thrifty find?
Do share...

Can't wait to show what else I found at CCPM, that will be a part of my Easter decor!
Stay tuned!

Happy Leap Year Day!
I hope your week is off to a great start!
~Rhonda  :)

  1. It's funny how once you love something, you can spot it a mile away. I walk through antique stores and can find the things I love within seconds!
Love your bird vase, and I'm sure the woman was just very impressed with your collection!

  2. That's a real nice piece you found. I'm not much into thrifting but on occasion when I've gone to an antique store and I've found some things that were special- but I tend to pick things out that are way too pricey. We don't have a place like you describe but I bet it's fun to go to. I like this little vignette with the platter behind which is a great backdrop. Natural flowers can't be beat! That's humorous about that woman making that comment. It sounds like she doesn't have much of a filter!
