A Tale of Two Chairs

Monday, July 30, 2012

This is a post about two old sad, ugly, stinky chairs found at an auction...

One chair was in it's original state,
albeit, a little less for the wear.

And a makeover had begun on the second chair,
but hadn't gotten much further than a change of color...

The two chairs, were given new life, along with two tables.
Also auction buys, from a long time ago!

The brown wood chair was painted AS Duck Egg Blue.

The white chair,
was transformed with AS Old White paint,
with a yellowish inset.

The vintage end table
was painted with a mix of AS Old White and Valspar Yellow, from a sample pot.
The hardware had such character, it remained in it's original state.

At some point along the years, this chair must have gotten a little wet!
To rid of the cushion of it's unpleasant musky smell,
several all layers of upholstery had to be removed and the foam left to air for a time.

It was replaced with the Chinese inspired beautiful, bright floral printed  fabric
by Braemore (Soil & Stain Repellent).

The blue chair was given a new cushion of Nautical Shells,
by P Kaufmann (also Soil & Stain Repellent).

The antique white farm side table was painted months ago,
to use for display in my CCPM's booth.

But being only one color, AS Old White, it lacked character, ...sadly boring.
The yellow mix used on the end table, in a slightly lighter shade, was added to the top and bottom tier.

The two chairs, and two tables,
all received a protective top coating of Minwax Wipe-On Poly,
in Clear Satin,
because this Picasso hasn't quite gotten the hang of AS Wax, yet! ha!

The two chairs, and two tables,
will hopefully find a new home soon!
For now, they reside in my new, second booth at
Lou's Flower World
Garden Center & Florist,
in Wilmington, NC.

And as for me, I'm in search of my next project!
Have brush ...will paint! :)

  7. If you brush this on, how do you keep from getting brush strokes? I do love what you do and am trying to get the courage to paint some furniture. The glider is next though. Already bought the spray paint for it! I almost have Kaje's room finished with the painting. Just the back sides of the two doors left to do. Sigh....six weeks and I'm still painting.

I'm sure someone will be thrilled to give these a new home! Wish it was mine!

  10. These are all so pretty. I love the yellow. A perfect shade. And the upholstery is such a great complement on each chair.

I'm with you on wax. I can do clear, but dark wax still challenges me sometimes.
