Thriftin' Good Fortune x3

Sunday, October 16, 2011

Hit the thriftin' mother lode this weekend,
the good fortune of getting three great deals,
with the help of a friend and my MIL.

~~ The first deal ~~
A beautiful piece of milk glass, found by a friend at an estate tag sale in Charlotte, on Friday.
{Don't you just love friends like that! "smiles"}
($3)

Saturday, I found an identical piece at a local thrift store.
($2)

But it gets better than that!
I already had one of these, -making that a total of three.

I'm envisioning a pretty Christmas tablescape, featuring a trio of arrangements on my dining room table, when the season arrives.

~~ Second deal ~~
Found a Mariposa Bowl
and silver plated footed dish,
at an estate tag sale in our town, Saturday morning.

The Mariposa piece was $8, but new, retailed over $100.

Also found the pretty divided dish, below.

~~ And the third deal ~~
My MIL found 6 pieces of milk glass, while yard sale'ing in her area Saturday morning,
all for TEN DOLLARS!!!

Two pieces are marked Fenton.
Will make a great addition to my other hobnail pieces.

Pretty excited over these finds! :)

On another note,
the weather was beautiful today!
After church, Kevin and I attended a
concert his uncle was playing in, with the Salvation Army Brass Band.

The church, 5th Avenue Methodist, was built in 1847, and was absolutely beautiful and grand.
Kevin's maternal grandparents were members when living, and his mom and dad were married here.

The music was awesome, consisting of many familiar old hymns and tunes.

Wish that I could have gotten more pictures, but the lighting was off for photos.

Did get a few of the stained glass windows.

"People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in their true beauty is revealed only if there is light from within."
~Elisabeth Kübler-Ross

  1. Your milk glass always warms my heart and makes me think of my mom. Also, those stained glass windows are stunning and I love your saying at the end about them!

Crazy weekend around here but that seems to be the norm lately. Had the girls a ton and tried to get Travis' room cleaned out so I can hopefully get it primed and painted in the next week or two.

Thanks for the congratulations on my blog about the fair. We'll just have to meet some day so you can say you actually have met the person whose photograph hangs in the Kerr Scott Building each year. hahaha!

  7. Your milk glass and the silver bowls are lovely pieces. I'm so happy for you. I'm just now appreciating milk glass. My sister-in-law gave me a piece recently. Those stain glass windows are so pretty. What a joy to be able to actually sit in church and sing with those in view. Thank you for your encouraging comments about my substitute teaching...So appreciated. Kathi

  8. Yes indeed, that Savannah can sure work her Grammy! It's amazing how much energy she had for the rest of the day, she wore me out! I have to go back to Lowe's tomorrow and buy what I went to buy today so Larry can hang Travis' closet doors for me on Wednesday while I'm up at the hospital with Kaje'. She's having a repeat surgery to try to permanently remove this ganglion on her wrist. She'll be in a cast for two weeks this time instead of one week and out of work for three weeks so this could get interesting. I hope it doesn't come back again. I have this thing about trying to make sure all my kids' medical and dental are taken care of before they get married.

Oh, and the entire house will be finished once Trav's closet doors are hung. It only took us 16-1/2 years! It should appraise much higher when we go to sell it with that finished. Now, if the economy would just cooperate by next fall we could sell it and be on our way to a much smaller place with no stairs!
