This was a hard post to name because I wasn't exactly sure what to call this project...
painted books?
repurposed books?
upcycled books?
...all of the above?
No catchy title for this one, but I'm still loving it! :)
When Ashley and I were shopping in Raleigh last week, I saw an idea at two different shops,
that set my creativity wheels in motion.
...Sets of Books painted the same color, with relative words on the spines, used in displays.
The first set I saw was at Inspirations Home Decor & More, crafted by Meme Bonakdar,

Ashley and I located a Goodwill nearby, to hunt for $.99 hardbacks for our project.
I learned by trial and error on this project.
{I'd love to make sets for the upcoming seasons/holidays.}
I painted on a few coats of Annie Sloan Old White Chalk Paint,
but the red of one cover and blue of another, started bleeding through.
No problem, added a coat of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer,
and one more of the AS Chalk Paint... got the job done!
Another lesson learned,
any of the cover that is showing on the underside (inside), paint it first.
I started on the outside cover, and when I opened the book to do the underside,
the painted spine that was already dry cracked in some places.
I lightly sanded the cracked spots, and repainted, quick fix!
Making the "borrowed" idea my own,
I opted to do a "quote," in vinyl letters, instead of painting words on.
And these two pictured, are most definitely my sunshine!
The book set was used to create a charming vignette atop an antique radio.
The picture of the three men, was rescued from a trunk in the loft of a barn, on the farm.
When found, it wasn't protected by a frame, any wonder it was in such good condition.
One of the fellows is Mr. Ramblings' great granddaddy, with his brothers.
I've been busy cleaning out cabinets and closets... doing some major purging!
Trying to get my home clean and organized in anticipation for fall.
The break in between to create something was nice! :)

ReplyDeleteI love your craft project! And that old photo of the men has such a lovely frame job! Wouldn't it have been a shame if you hadn't rescued it?
