Watching Hee Haw on a Saturday night
was as much a childhood ritual for me,
as going to church on Sunday morning,
or school the five days following!
Perched in front of the TV in our living room,
{the only one in the house},
I grew up singing the lyrics above,
right along with Misty Rowe, and the other Gossip Girls.
When I found the little gossip table at the auction last weekend
{more politely called a telephone table},
those lyrics came to mind, and I've been singing them ever since!
If that little table could talk,
can you just imagine the tales {gossip & rumors}, it could tell?!?
Especially if it was privy to a party line..
oh my...
Many previous generations would probably be blushing!
The chair was a Habitat for Humanity Restore purchase,
brought home in really rough shape!
{Didn't get a "before" shot}
With many rickety limbs,
it spent a day in traction while wood glue dried,
before being painted AS Old White, and distressed.
New fabric upholstery and a matching pillow
were made from a pale green botanical printed linen.
The chair and table make a pretty good pair, don't they?
Maybe they knew each other in a previous decade! ;)
These two pieces went to my booth at Lou's,
where we will be having an Open House
celebrating the upcoming Christmas Season
on Thursday evening, November 15th ~ 5-8 p.m.

Sure wish I lived closer so I could visit your shop! Your chair has beautiful lines and I love your fabric choice which looks great with the Old White! The table makes for the perfect companion!
ReplyDeleteLove the chair and the fabric is beautiful!!....Wilmington?...I am there often...I must go by your booth!!!!...
ReplyDeleteI've never heard it called a "gossip table!" I have one in my office, lol! You do bring back memories with talking about the party lines though. Oh, how well I remember them. We actually also had one in our barn so that dad could call if he needed some extra help, etc. as it was too far from the house to just run in and tell mom whatever. I do wish life was more simpler like it was when I was growing up but I'm sure glad not to have party lines anymore.
ReplyDeleteThe chair and table turned out beautiful, as always. I hope your booth is selling a ton so that you can keep saving these pieces and giving them new life.
Love both pieces, great job...

Beautiful chair and gorgeous fabric!!! The table is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteOh how neat! Wish I lived closer so that I could shop with you! Love the Hee-haw part of the post. I use to stay with my grand-parents on Sat nights, and we watched it faithfully. I can still see my pa-paw sitting in his chair with the biggest smile of the day on his face while tapping his foot to the music. Thanks for bringing that up, and singing the lyrics for us, lol.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Thanksgiving if I don't see ya in blogland before.
Sweet. I know we love finding pieces like this for restoration.
ReplyDeleteWhite people are so cool. ;)

Both pieces are wonderful. My parents had a similar table in the home I grew up in. Thanks for linking to the Open House party.
