Late Bloomers

Friday, September 25, 2015

Here we are, having just welcomed Fall,
and are mere days from turning another page on the calendar to usher in a new month,
both leading to the conclusion that Summer is officially over.

...but apparently my gardenias didn't get the memo.

A new crop of heavily fragrant white blooms are popping up
all across the dark glossy green bushes in my yard.

But I'm not complaining,
but considering them an extended summer blessing
...and enjoying!

Did you know that gardenias are a genus of the coffee plant,
and there are around 140 species of them?

They are also the national flower of Pakistan.

And in France, gardenias are traditionally worn by men as boutonnieres
when in evening dress.

And one last tidbit of information,
with one of the species, if water touches the white flowers,
they immediately turn brown.
Pretty interesting, huh?

I love the pure, simple beauty and lovely fragrance of these late bloomers!

On another note....

My friend, Julia, and I went to Raleigh and Clayton for the day, Wednesday.

We were on the back streets of Raleigh looking for a particular consignment store,
when I spotted the truck below, parked in front of Blackjack Brewery...

operated by Sunny, Sophia, and Becca.

The trio made it to the finale, as contestants
of Food Network's The Great Food Truck Race, Season Six,
which will air this Sunday night.

{Borrowed Photo}
Becca Ruffin, Sophia Woo and Sunny Lin of the Raleigh-based Pho Nomenal Dumpling Truck. The truck is in the finale of “The Great Food Truck Race” on the Food Network.

I've been following the series as Pho Nomenol,
along with six other food trucks, competed down Route 66,
and was pretty excited to happen upon their truck. much so, that I squealed when I saw it,
and almost caused my friend to wreck her car!  True story!
...I think she's forgiven me!  ;)

Good luck to these ladies!
...bring home a win to the Carolinas!

And I hope that you all have a great weekend!
Ours will be wet, but it's still a weekend!  :)

  1. Thanks for visiting my blog. I do not have your email so I am answering this way while thoroughly enjoying your posts! Love the gardenias - my plants never know what season it is either.

  2. OMG, there is that food truck that was in Durham too that I had a post on! Those dumplings were amazing! What consignment shop did you find in Raleigh? Please let me know. Your gardenias are beautiful, I love the scent of them. Have a great weekend!

  3. Your blooms are gorgeous and I'm sure the smell is too! I'm so happy for you getting to see that cute truck! I'm not familiar with the show because my Hubby usually gets his way with the TV. News, news, news.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  4. I love gardenias and yours are so beautiful! When I lived in Alabama, I had a huge bush right outside my den and it always smelled so wonderful! I missed them when we lived in Texas, because they will not grow there. Now that we are in TN, I think I may be planting a bush next spring! Oh, I can just smell them now!! :-) Have a marvelous weekend and I will check out these chicks Sunday night!

  5. I love the smell of gardenias. We have some planted near our driveway. Mine are not blooming anymore though. I love how you've used yours inside! I didn't know the history of that flower either. Very interesting! i don't watch the Food Network very often but that really was neat that you came upon that food truck. Were they just parked there or selling food from it? It would've been good to try out their food since you knew it was supposed to be so good.

  6. Gardenias are wonderful. I love the fragrance. I had a pretty gardenia plant for a few years, but lost it.
    Thanks for sharing yours.

  7. Oh my gosh - that wheelbarrow is exactly what I'm looking for - please ship it to me immediately - thanks very much LOL
And I LOVE the cotton garland and wreath - how beautiful !
Such great inspiration - thanks for sharing !

  8. Gardenias make me so happy! I had some in my bridal bouquet, so whenever I smell that scent, it takes me back to that happy day. Thanks for sharing your pretty blooms.

  9. I didn't know that little info about Gardenias! I wish we could grow them here- but it gets too cold in the winters. How fun to have spotted the dumpling truck! I wish them luck!

  10. I bet they smell heavenly! Love your cherub too.

  11. Thank you for sharing about Gardenias. What lovely flowers. I remember hearing about them in movies, especially that the girl was not to touch them, as they were so delicate. I hear they smell heavenly. Kathi
