Ever take a walk on the wild side and mix-up your metals???
Metal finishes that is?
I'm quite certain, somewhere in the world of design,
the concept of mixing metal finishes is on THE list of what NOT to do! ha!
But being that conformity is highly overrated, and that I needed a boost
from the after-Christmas-house-blahs, I decided to throw caution to the wind and mix different variations of silvers and golds to create a clean, simple mantel.
If you follow my blog, you know the story behind Ashley's picture on the mantel.
The day we brought her Senior Pictures home, she placed it there, and not having the heart to move it, I decorate around it! That was over a year and six seasons/holidays ago!
The picture makes me "smile" when I'm missing her so!
The brass fan in front of the fireplace brings in another element of metals.
"If I create from the heart, nearly everything works; if from the head, almost nothing."
-Marc Chagall

I love mixing things up! Your mantel is very pretty!
ReplyDeleteYour metals are the perfect mix! Gorgeous, elegant mantel, too! So sweet you left your daughter's photo, she's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAre the flowers from your garden? I'm not sure what grows in the south in the winter. I think the metal mix looks gorgeous. You know what they say, rules were meant to be broken!
ReplyDeleteThe older I get the more I know that as long as I like and feel comfortable with my home whatever decorating rules there are just don't matter. I for one love Ashley's picture there. What better way to decorate than with those faces that we love and that make us smile when we see them. My kids have teased me about my "Travis shrine" by the front door. Now that he's home I've been mixing it up a bit and have plans for what I'll do when I can repaint the front room. I'm sure it will include a picture or two of my grandbabies!
Your mantel is so beautiful! You have such a beautiful daughter too and what a great place to show her off! ;)
ReplyDeleteBe a sweetie,
Shelia ;0
So pretty! Of course, her picture should stay there! Hope you are having a great week!...hugs...Debbie
ReplyDeleteI definitely think you should mix metals. Your mantel looks great.
ReplyDeleteI think your home would be gorgeous no matter what you mixed up! I'm going to show my hubby your moulding, lol, not that I am going to get it with the projects we have going on, but I sure do like it. I think all he would have to do is add to ours???
ReplyDeleteNew friend here!! Loving your mix of metals! Makes for a very pretty mantle! Drop by and visit with me soon!!
ReplyDeleteHi Rhonda, Your mantle is stunning!! Love the amarylis in the vases. Glad you joined the party! Kristen
ReplyDeleteVery nice... going to sound like a broken record but I just wouldn't have thought of that, either. hahaha!! :)
ReplyDeletePretty! Glad you kept her picture there, those are the things they will remember right? Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment. Have a great day! XO Cindy
ReplyDeleteRhonda, I absolutely LOVE the mix of metals. You can tell that I'm not one to conform...LOL! I think it keeps things interesting. I like the idea of mixing things up! Great job!
ReplyDeleteI think your fireplace mantel looks so pretty! I love the symmetry of it and I personally don't think that mixing metals is bad at all. Nowadays, I think anything goes! Your daughter's senior picture is so pretty there too. I have a senior in highschool this year too. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteRenee~
