My Shingle is Hung

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

As of today, I am officially the current resident
of Booth #100

I've hung my shingle,
Bello Market
and now hope to sell, sell, sell....

My booth doesn't really have a theme or target market.

Just junk
...some old and antique
 ...some retro, vintage
 ...and some more current pieces.

The pegboard walls and red "barn door" divider were already up in the booth
and I couldn't paint either, unfortunately.

But I do plan to add some grapevines across the rafters,
and hang an old wood sign overhead.

Random shots....
Excuse the quality, they were taken with my cell phone.

The bag of loose vintage buttons, on the table below,
may have been my first sale after I left!
{Fingers crossed...}

Had a lot of interest in the oil painting below...

And the Needlepoint Chair caught many an eye...

The red table below, purchased at an auction Saturday,
was painted last night and touched up this morning
with Annie Sloan's Emperor's Silk (red).
I considered breaking out the hair dryer to speed the drying process!
Desperate times --- Desperate measures! ha!

And since I am an avid reader,
books are plentiful to pass on once read.
{For a small price, of course.}

Side Note...
See the book, Night Road, by Kristin Hannah?
Super good read!!!

Hoping that I do well!
I enjoy the hobby of junkin'
and the thrill of the hunt is intoxicating!

Not looking to get rich, just support my habit!
Do I hear an amen from the fellow junkers out there?!? "smiles"

Tiptoe Through the Tulips...

Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Although I'm not a big fan of Tiny Tim,
I can say that I take great delight in beautiful Tulips.
{The sounds of an ukulele and words of Tiptoe Through the Tulips just happen to be stuck in my head! ha!}

Nothing says Spring to me like

Tulips,

 Daffodils,

and Goldenrod.

By process of elimination, noone else wanted the job,
I was elected Chairman of our Church Flower Committee Team this year.
For a new church arrangement,
I shopped Old Time Pottery and found just the flowers to create a springy and fresh arrangement.

Also found the beautiful clear crystal urn, below at the Pottery.

To hide the unsightly stems of the flowers and the floral foam, moss was added.

And below, the arrangement complete....

From a distance, the flowers appear real,
...and the ushers thought so, offering Thanks for them during the Offertory Prayer.  "smiles"

On another floral note...

The live camellias below, came from my Grandmother B's yard.
She is no longer with us, but her legacy lives on in a few remaining beautiful gardens around her home.
The camellias were picked from bushes that were planted by her over 80 years ago.

Just wanted to say "Thanks" for all the sweet comments
that were left on my last post during my blogging break!

I'm anxious to explore blogland,
to see the explosion of Spring I'm sure is displayed beautifully in many blogs.
And as soon as I conquer the (pollen) dust that seems to have taken over my house,
I'll be posting my Easter decor.

....stay tuned!

Deacon's Dinner & A Cherry Cheese Trifle Recipe

Sunday, March 4, 2012

Way back yonder in the fall,
I was asked to host the Annual Fall Deacon and Wives Dinner at our church.
A guy in the church cooked steaks to order,
I cooked the sides,
and for the desserts, I enlisted the help of several other wives.

I fixed the Cherry Cheese Trifle below.
It is always a crowd pleaser, simple to make, and would be a great dessert for Easter.

But before I share the recipe,
I've included a few shots of the table decor.

This was a casual dinner for a group of about 34,
so the decorations were kept simple.

Six Tables were set basically the same.
The lanterns were a great find at Lowe's, on clearance for $4.00.
I would have preferred them to be a darker color, but for the price,
they work just fine! :)

At the time, our church didn't have tablecloths on hand,
so I opted to use matching placemats at each tablesetting instead.

Didn't get a picture of the plates and silverware on the tables.
I used the church plates, which are a pretty white heavy old ironstone with red floral trim band.
They complimented the fabric centers well!

Again, being that I didn't want the dinner to look too fussy,
{It was a school-night affair}
I did a simple arrangement on the buffet table of lilies in a large glass vase.

Paired with the food, the lilies made a pretty showing.

The dimension is hard to distinguish in the photo,
but the glass vase is a large piece, and was found thriftin' for about $4.00

Cherry Cheese Trifle
1-8 oz package of cream cheese, softened
1-14 oz can sweetened condensed milk
1-12 oz container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional, gives it a super sweet flavor)
1-13 oz prepared angel food cake
2-21 oz cans cherry pie filling

In a medium bowl, combine cream cheese and sweetened condensed milk. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth. Stir in 1/2 of whipped topping and almond extract.; set aside.
Tear angel food cake into 1" pieces in bottom of trifle bowl. Spoon 1/3 of cream cheese filling over cake, and top with 1/3 of pie filling. Repeat layers twice more. Spread remaining whipped topping over top of trifle, sealing to edges. Garnish with additional pie filling and some sort of nuts, (almonds or pecans), if desired.

On another note,
I'll be taking a short blogging break.

My number one girl is home from college this week, on spring break.
woooo hoooooo!
Looking forward to spending the week with her.
Need to really get cracking on some last projects for my booth!
Move-in day is drawing near!
And, I'm itching to do a little spring decorating around the house.
So Lord willing, I'll be back soon! :)
